The teachers

Three teachers share the week at Jete, and each has a background check and CPR and first aid training.

  • Mariyah Embry, director and creative movement teacher, leaning on a shelf of folded blankets in the studio

    Mariyah Embry

Director, creative movement and adaptive dance

Mariyah founded Jete and directs the studio. She teaches creative movement on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, leads the adaptive class on Tuesday and Thursday, and is the teacher you meet at the door of a trial class.

  • Shalini Nambiar, jazz and hip hop teacher, seated on the studio floor

    Shalini Nambiar

Jazz and hip hop, adaptive class assistant

Shalini teaches jazz and hip hop on Wednesday and Thursday. In the adaptive class she works on the floor beside Mariyah, so every dancer has a teacher close by.

  • Willem Bakker, ballet and tap teacher, in a navy cardigan at the barre

    Willem Bakker

    Ballet and tap

Willem teaches ballet and tap on Monday, Tuesday and Saturday. He keeps the barre at child height and teaches one new combination a month.

Meet them in class
